The Pentax P3N is a versatile 35mm SLR camera introduced in 1990, serving as a bridge between the all-manual, all-mechanical cameras of the past and the upcoming auto-focus, automatic-capable cameras of the 90s. It offers full program, auto exposure mode (when using Pentax PK-A lenses), aperture priority, or full metered manual. The electronic viewfinder display provides both the selected and suggested shutter speed in manual mode, and the shutter speed to be used in automatic mode.
The P3N has an electronic self-timer, depth of field preview lever, and an exposure memory lock button, compensating for the lack of an exposure compensation feature. Despite being from the era of automated film advance, the P3N stands out with its mechanical film crank and rewind, which has contributed to its longevity.
As a budget-friendly option, the P3N is an excellent choice for beginners in 35mm photography. Coupled with any of the great Pentax lenses available, it can deliver impressive images. The P3N is also known as the P30N in some markets. A variant, the P30T model, features a diagonal split-prism focusing screen and a plastic film door instead of the P3N's metal one.
Note that this camera requires two V76 batteries for operation.
